Description

The Fresh Foods Wyoming VeggieBox Share is a 12-week CSA.  Each week you will receive a variety of local and regionally grown fruits and vegetables (approx. 15-20 lbs.).

In the early Summer you should have Kale & Swiss chard, radishes including the Daikons and Watermelon radishes, salad Turnips, Zucchini and other summer squash, and cucumbers–things that are shorter day.  We try to include Broccoli and Cauliflower if the spring allows them to mature without bolting, and often Kohlrabi, Red Beets, and early Carrots…other possibilities are Green Beans and Corn.

In late August or early September you have Tomatoes and Peppers, Eggplant, more Broccoli, Watermelons and Cantaloupe, and early Cabbage.

Normally after the first frost the corn, green beans, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, and other veggies sensitive to frost cease, but we have planted in such a way as to continue with cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, celery, winter squash, onions, potatoes (fingerlings too) and other crops that love the cooler weather.

VeggieBox Program is currently available in Casper, WY.  Program members will receive an email prior to their 1st VeggieBox confirming pickup location.

The average Veggie Share profile:

  • Swiss Chard (one of the greens that grows in hotter weather)
  • Kales
  • Cucumbers – four varieties during the season
  • Carrots- Early Nantes and the Cosmic Purple for Fall
  • Radishes, including Watermelon radishes and Daikons
  • Salad Turnips
  • Red Beets
  • Broccoli (full head and side production)
  • Cauliflower – 2 to 3 heads in spring or fall
  • Bok Choi- limited to early spring
  • Eggplant
  • Kohlrabi
  • Green Beans – twice if season allows
  • Onions – four varieties and green onions, too
  • Summer Squash- Zucchini and Yellow
  • Tomatoes- canner’s, slicers, paste, cherries, and Heirloom
  • Specialty Peppers- hot and not-
  • Bell Peppers- three varieties
  • Snack Peppers
  • Cabbage- red and green, early and storage, savoyed (new)
  • Celery- twice
  • Sweet Corn
  • Sweet Potatoes-working on improving curing
  • Winter Squash- Spaghetti, Kabocha, Hubbard, Hidatsa-Native American, Butternut, Buttercup, and Acorn
  • Cantaloupes/melons (LOTS…The Farmer LOVES growing these!)

Remember: The SHARE’s are lighter in the early summer and heavier as the season matures. The weather and other factors can affect the yields and crop availability…and crop failure is never out of the question as a farmer.  If the season should be a short one, we assure you will still have plenty of veggies.
